The Bakari Institute

Welcome to the site of The Bakari Institute. We are a full service African and Caribbean-centered not-for-profit agency operating out of Illinois, Missouri, and now Texas.  Our mission is to develop programs that bridge the gap between those that have and those that have not.

What We Do

We began in East St. Louis, IL by providing mentoring and tutoring services to at-risk teens in 1992.  Each year we added another component to the curriculum in order to keep up with the demand for new and challenging activities to help us achieve our goals of keeping youth out of trouble and experiencing new things.  Here are some activities:  Click on activity to view photos.

OUR SERVICES

We provide three basic services:

Men At Work

Men at Work/Under Construction is our mentoring and life skills training program for middle school and high school aged boys to help them prepare for life as independent and responsible men  Click here for details.

Harvesting New Generations

This is our popular summer daycamp that provides both college and career prep workshops that not only helps teens with short term skills such as resume-writing, job and scholarship research, and interviewing; but also with long-term prognostics that lead to more stable and fulfilling career choices.  For more details click here.
